Types of Pearl Necklaces

Pearl necklaces are classic and timeless; they never go out of style. They match with almost any outfit, any occasion, any place and time. Having the right necklace can give enhancement to a woman’s display of perfect elegance and prestige. Classic pearl necklaces have a length of 17 inches to 19 inches and have a range of different types such as: Bib Necklace, Choker, Dog Collar, Graduated Necklace, Matinee Necklace, Opera Necklace, Princess Necklace, Sautoir or Rope Necklace, and Uniform Necklace.

Bib necklaces are made up of multiple strands of stepped pearls; a Choker sits beneath the base of the neck and is usually 14 inches to 16 inches long; a Dog Collar is worn close to the neck, it is consist of several strands of pearls; a Graduated Necklace is made up of a single strand of pearls that has a large pearl in the middle, with the pearls gradually becoming smaller toward the clasp; a Matinee Necklace sits at the top of the cleavage and has a length of 22 inches to 24 inches; an Opera Necklace sits at the breastbone and is usually 30 inches to 35 inches long; a Princess Necklace has a length ranging from 18 inches to 20 inches; a Sautoir or Rope Necklace is any necklace that is longer than an Opera Necklace; and a Uniform Necklace is that one which is consists of pearls that appear to have the same size, usually there is a minor difference towards the ends so they look to be in proportion.

Pearl necklaces with a classic size of 6-8mm are well-matched for most any occasion; while those with a larger size such as 10mm are best appropriate for special events. Pearl necklaces are available in colors black, cream, golden, pink, white, and white rose. White and white rose colored pearls are suited for any range of skin tones; while golden colored pearl necklaces are suitable for darker skin tones.
